Who can do this?
Practitioners only
As a healthcare practitioner, you may be required to sign documents in your patients' records, such as clinical notes and clinical orders (pathology or imaging requests). Your signature indicates authentic proof that you created or endorse these records yourself as a licenced healthcare professional.
In Halaxy, you can add a digital signature to your practitioner profile, then securely sign clinical records with it.
Note
For security purposes, you can only create a digital signature for yourself. You cannot create, view or edit a signature for anyone else in your practice, even if you are a Full Access user.
-
Click Personal > Profile.
-
Under Your Signature, click Add Signature.
-
In the pop-up, select how you want to add your signature:
-
Draw: Write your signature in the drawing box using your mouse, finger or stylus.
-
Upload: Upload an image file of your signature.
-
-
Click Save.
You have successfully added your signature to your practitioner profile. You can now start signing clinical records with your signature - see next section.
Note: You must have a digital signature in your profile before signing a clinical note.
-
Create a clinical note or open an existing one that is unpublished.
-
In the note editor toolbar, move the cursor to where you want to insert the signature, then click the add signature button.
-
The practitioner signature placeholder is added to the clinical note. This does not actually sign the document just yet.
-
Next to the Save button, click the down arrow, then click Publish.
-
In the pop-up, tick the checkbox Publish my signature.
-
Click Publish to confirm.
Your digital signature publishes with the clinical note and appears with a timestamp.
