Reviewing your patient's historical health records can take time. Summarising their clinical data can simplify the process—grabbing key points necessary for a quick review! With Halaxy, you can summarise clinical notes with a click of a button. You can even summarise a collection of clinical notes in the past, eliminating the need to review each note one-by-one.

Summarise a single note

You can generate a summary for a single clinical note if it is a published appointment note, clinical note, referral note or a clinical tool.

  1. Open the patient's profile, and navigate to the Clinical Notes tab.

  2. From the list of notes on the left, select a clinical note to open it.

  3. On the top-right of the note, next to Revert, click the dropdown and select Summarise note with AI. In a few seconds, an AI summary will be generated out of the clinical note. (Note: If you see a Save button instead of Revert, then your note is not published yet. Click the dropdown arrow next to it and select Publish.)

  4. (Optional) At the bottom of the AI-generated summary, click on the drop-down and select an AI template from your list. Then, click Re-summarise to regenerate the summary using the selected template.

  5. (Optional) Click on the Icon-Edit.svg pencil icon to manually edit the summary's text or the Icon-Bin.svg bin icon to delete the summary entirely.

Note

If you manually edit the AI-generated summary and save, you will be able to click on See original AI summary at the top of the summary.

Important

Please review all clinical details before making decisions. The AI summary is a support tool and may not reflect the full patient context.

Summarise multiple notes

Halaxy also gives you the option to summarise multiple published clinical notes of the patient for the last few months, so you don't need to check on their notes one-by-one.

    • AI Template: Select an AI template to use for the summary.

    • Date Range: Select the date range for when the notes were published. Select Custom Range to manually select the dates yourself. (Note: There is a maximum of 24 months for custom range selection.)

    • Note Author: Select whether to summarise all the published notes that you have access to or only notes where you are the author.

    • Note Type: Tick the types of notes to include in the summary.

    Tip

Remember, clinical notes and records need to be Published before they can be summarised with AI.

  4. Click Generate Summary and allow a few seconds for the AI to generate a summary.

  5. (Optional) At the bottom of the AI-generated summary, click on the drop-down and select an AI template from your list. Then, click Re-summarise to regenerate the summary using the selected template.

  6. Click Save to Note to save the summary into a new clinical note as an AI summary for easy access later.

    Tip

After saving to a note, you can make changes to the text of the note itself. At the top of the note, you can find the original AI summary by clicking on View summary, which also enables you to regenerate a new summary with a different template. Saving it to the same note gives you the option to either append to the note or replace the note entirely.

    Note

Saved AI summaries are accessible to practitioners with Full Access and Clinical Access levels. Other access levels will require the note to be shared with them specifically.

Important

Please review all clinical details before making decisions. The AI summary is a support tool and may not reflect the full patient context.

Set a default AI template

Setting a default template for each AI tool helps speed up your AI automation by automatically selecting the correct template to use.

  1. Navigate to Settings > General.

  2. Under the AI Settings sections, click the Icon-Edit.svg pencil icon for Default AI templates.

  3. In the pop-up, select a template under the dropdown for the desired AI tool.

Caution

If you do not see the AI template you want to use in the dropdown list, the template may be Inactive or belong to another category. You can review your templates in Settings > Clinical > AI Templates tab.
